Volume Four - Europe

This intriguing building stood atop a hill overlooking a sandy peninsula. This is the Manoir de St Pol Roux, built by French poet Pierre Paul Roux in 1905.  After an incident with a German soldier in 1940, the family left and it was looted and suffered a fire.  In 1944, occupied by the Germans, it was repeatedly bombed and completely burnt down. What is left is predominantly an ugly building that looks totally out of place. However, I found this window-like feature interesting not only because it was blocked up but also due to the natural floral window box and decoration that was busy growing to reclaim this manor back to nature.
